Digitalisation is an important factor for the competitiveness of the Swiss financial centre. It facilitates new, innovative business models in the financial sector. These developments are driven among other things by more powerful mobile end-user devices, improved availability and analysability of big data and blockchain technology.

Digitalisation is changing the economy and many business models. Consequently, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is preparing proposals as to how corporate taxation can be adapted to the new developments in the longer term. Switzerland is actively involved in this work.

The Federal Council is closely monitoring developments in the area of stablecoins. International cooperation is essential in view of the global nature of some stablecoin projects. Switzerland is actively involved in the relevant work in the competent bodies, especially the Financial Stability Board.
